UK/England/Catterick Garrison

The aircraft, believed to be a
Puma, came down in a wooded area of the Catterick Garrison Army base, about two miles west of Richmond, known as Hudswell Grange. A full-scale rescue operation co-ordinated at RAF Kinloss, was launched after 9 pm.
Two RAF Sea King helicopters, two mountain rescue teams, a fleet of ambulances and fire crews were sent to the scene which was cordoned off.
The helicopters flew 11 of the
12 injured to two hospitals in Newcastle and Middlesborough. The other was taken to hospital by ambulance.
An RAF spokesman said some were "walking wounded" while others had more serious injuries.
The casualties were the two-man RAF crew and 10 infantrymen based at Catterick - the Army's biggest garrison in Europe.
"This was a fairy typical RAF operation in support of the Army."
There had been no indication of an emergency. No Mayday call or distress signal.

09.08.2007-Two soldiers died from their injuries. The two airmen who died were Flight Lieutenant David Sale and Sergeant Phillip Anthony Burfoot.
The helicopter was from 33 squadron, based at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire.

10.08.2007-Third death in helicopter crash

The Puma is the oldest helicopter in RAF service and is due to be phased out in 2010. Capable of many operational roles, it has a crew of two or three and can carry 16 fully equipped troops or 20 lightly equipped.
Catterick Garrison, situated a few miles off the A1 in North Yorkshire, covers 2400 acres with a further 19,500 acres of rugged training land.
It is also home for the School of Infantry and Infantry Training Centre, where phase one and two training is conducted for every British infantry soldier.

de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300
№ F-OIQI)
Twin Otter,
Air Moorea,
20 BELIEVED DEAD IN PLANE CRASH
IN FRENCH POLYNESIA

09.08.2007/22:15 GMT
French Polynesia/Island of Moorea
A small airplane plunged into the sea moments after taking off from the French Polynesian resort island of Moorea, apparently killing all 20 people aboard in the territory's worst-ever plane crash, officials said Friday.
Two Australian tourists, two European Union officials, and a group of Polynesian environmental and tourism officials were among those aboard the
de Havilland DHC6 Twin Otter 300 (reg. F-OIQI) turboprop when it crashed Thursday.
The crash's cause was unclear. No one was believed to have survived the crash.
Rescue workers, helped by French navy ships and local fishing boats, recovered the bodies of 14 passengers and the pilot.
An official called the crash French Polynesia's worst-ever airplane accident.
Suitcases bobbed in the lagoon as helicopters circled above and rescue boats, flying the French tricolor, scoured the area. Worried residents gathered on the wharf, clustering around fishing boats as they returned.
Shaken fishermen described seeing the plane crash so quickly that they didn't understand what had happened.
The High Commission said the plane was resting on the sea floor, about 2,300 feet deep.
The plane went down within a minute after takeoff at noon Thursday. The
Air Moorea flight was heading for Tahiti, 11 miles away, on what would have been just a seven-minute journey.
The Twin Otter plane was returned to service after a major upgrade in November 2006 and had two new engines, Witkowski said. It was unclear when it first entered service. He would not comment on the crash's possible cause, saying investigators would determine it.
The island of Moorea is a popular resort location prized for its stunning beaches and green hilly peaks. The plane carried out regular flights between Moorea and Tahiti for Air Moorea.
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Friday that the two Australians passengers were from Victoria state, but that they had not been identified.

de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300 (рег.
Michel Santurenne

South Korea/Busan-Gimhae (Pusan) International Airport (PUS)

A Jeju Air passenger plane carrying 74 people skidded off the runway while taxiing to its gate at Gimhae International Airport in Busan yesterday morning. Ten passengers suffered minor injuries. Six of them were taken to a nearby hospital. The de Havilland Canada DHC-8-402 Q400 (reg. HL5256), operated by the budget domestic carrier, had landed safely. The left wing of the plane then hit a drainage ditch after it was blown by a strong wind, destroying one propeller, an official from the airline said. The airport was closed to air traffic for 23 minutes and seven flights were delayed. Aviation experts are scheduled to fly to Busan to investigate. Jeju Air normalized its flight schedule with a substitute plane yesterday afternoon. The airline began flying in 2006.

The linchpin of naval aviation operations, the mission of the highly-valued E-2C Hawkeye, is to provide command and control leadership to Aircraft Carrier Strike Groups. Manufactured by Northrop-Grumman, the Hawkeye is flown by ten fleet squadrons stationed in Norfolk, VA, Pt. Mugu, CA, and Atsugi, Japan; two reserve squadrons in Norfolk and Atlanta, GA, and the training squadron VAW-120, also in Norfolk. A highly flexible aircraft, the carrier-based Hawkeye has a trio of detection systems which are able to detect ships and aircraft in excess of 300 nautical miles. When this "over-the-horizon" detection capability is combined with a suite of communications equipment and a highly trained aircrew, the Hawkeye is a potent airborne weapon for any mission in which the Carrier Air Group takes part, from Strike and Air Intercept Control to Close Air Support for ground forces as well as Search and Rescue missions. Regardless of its assigned mission, the Hawkeye is a priceless player in the airborne command and control of the United States Armed Forces. The E-2C Hawkeye normally carries a crew of five, including two pilots and three naval flight officers.

of small airplane in southeast Alaska

16.08.2007/US/AK/25 mls N of Ketchikan

A small airplane crashed near this island city in southeast Alaska killing five people. There were four survivors in the crash Thursday, including a
3-year-old girl. Three of the four were to be transported to hospitals in the U.S. mainland for further treatment of burns.  The SeaWind Aviation plane crashed into a tree at Traitors Cove, about 25 miles north of Ketchikan. The plane went down on land about 200 feet from shore. It couldn't be immediately confirmed that the plane hit a tree, but several trees were burning after the crash. The cause was under investigation.  At the time of the crash, high winds unexpectedly came up, but it couldn't immediately be determined if that was a factor. Darkness and worsening weather ended recovery efforts Thursday night. The bodies would be recovered Friday. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were headed to the scene of the crash.Investigators will be looking at a multiple of possible causes, including weather at the time of the crash, the plane's flight and maintenance logs, and the pilot's ratings and medical records.  Аll the variables that could have affected the flight will be considered.
SeaWind Aviation's Web site lists its only aircraft as a de Havilland Beaver floatplane. The company offers bear viewing and sightseeing tours, including flights to nearby Misty Fiords National Monument.
According to AP
killed in Thursday's crash were Eric Smith, 37; his wife Christine Smith, 36; their son Trevor Smith, 3, all of Tualatin, Ore.; David Mayer, 60, Oregon City, Ore. and Daniel Herron, 49, of Irvine. Troopers identified the survivors as pilot Clifford Kamm, 44, and tour guide Sara Steffen, 27, both of Ketchikan; Allison Smith, 3, of Tualatin, and Mindy Mayer, 60, of Oregon City.
Mayer, Kamm and Steffen were in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle but the little girl was in critical condition, officials said.

New SAR pilots-in-training continuously train for this type of landing to refine their skills from the fleet. Maneuvers in SAR must be more precise and the crew more coordinated than in normal fleet operations because of the difficult rescue scenarios they face.
