| Helicopter crashed in Kenya, 6 dead 10.06 2012/ 05:30:00 GMT Kenya/ Nairobi/ Ngong Hills Internal Security Minister Professor George Saitoti and his deputy, Orwa Ojode died in a police helicopter crash on Sunday morning in Ngong Hills on the outskirts of Nairobi. The two ministers died along with two pilots and two of bodyguards but the authorities have not yet established the cause of the crash. The aircraft involved was an AS350 B3e helicopter, registered as 5Y-CDT, manufacturers' serial number 7238. The ill-fated chopper was built in 2011 and delivered to the Kenya Police last December. The helicopter had logged about 230 flight hours since new and was last serviced at the end of May. |

Самолетът падна в гъсто населен жилищен район близо до летището при подхода си за кацане разрушавайки печатница, работилница за дърворезба и голяма жилищна сграда. Няма оцелели от намиращите се на борда. Потвърдени са 10 загинали на земята, а други 5 са ранени. Минути преди катастрофата екипажът подал сигнал „бедствие” и докладвал за отказ на двигателите. The 153 people on board were killed. At least ten people were killed on the ground. Five people were found injured. The airplane had taken off from Abuja (ABV) on a domestic flight to Lagos (LOS). On approach to Lagos it clipped a power line and crashed into a two-story building in the Iju area of Lagos, north of the airport on the runway 18L extended centerline. The cause of the crash remained unclear Monday. The pilots radioed to the Lagos control tower just before the crash, reporting engine trouble, a military official said. Rescue workers searched for the aircraft's black box recorders. The aircraft appeared to have landed on its belly amid clear, sunny skies onto the dense neighbourhood that sits along the typical approach path taken by aircraft heading into Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The plane tore through roofs, sheared a mango tree and rammed into a woodworking studio, a printing press and at least two apartment buildings before stopping. The dead included at least four Chinese, two Lebanese, two sisters from USA. |

The four crew members were taken to airport clinic with minor injuries but 12 people were killed when the airplane struck a minivan. The airplane had departed Lagos (LOS) on a cargo flight on behalf of DHL Aviation. Flight 111 had been cleared to land on runway 21at Accra in bad weather. After touchdown the airplane ran off the end of the runway, went through the perimeter fence and struck a taxi and a minivan on Giffard Road, opposite of the El Wak Stadium.
