Aviation Investigation Final Report

On 22.02.2023, the crew (pilot-instructor, pilot in training) with two passengers on board of Diamond DA42 Twin Star (OK-ZZK) took off from the LZTN/ RWY 22 airport (Trenčín) for the purpose of performing a flyover to the LZPT airport (Partizánske/ Malé Bielice), where the passengers were to disembark for the purpose of taking over and subsequent flyover of another aircraft after performing the prescribed maintenance. The crew was then to perform a flyover to the LZIB airport (Bratislava) where the pilot in training was to undergo a final check. The crew changed their intention to perform the flyover immediately after takeoff, probably for training reasons, with the intention of performing a circuit with a flying landing and then continuing towards the LZPT airport. The crew did not report any technical problems after takeoff or during the flight. In the area of the municipality of Trenčianske Stankovce, part of Brečné, an aircraft collided with the ground at 12:18 UTC. The pilots and passengers died. The aircraft was destroyed upon impact with the ground.

The cause of the accident was the collision of the aircraft with the ground, caused by the loss of speed, which occurred when the engine control levers were set to the idle position. The crew did not take any action to restore normal flight mode.
