Taiwan/ 5,3 km (3.3 mls) E of Taipei-Sung Shan Airport (TSA)

On February 4, 2015, TransAsia Airways passenger flight GE 235, an ATR 72-600 airplane (B-22816) took off from Songshan Airport at 10:51 Taipei time for Kinmen Airport carrying two pilots and one observer with 2 cabin crews and 53 passengers. Total 58 persons onboard. Three minutets after takeoff, the aircraft lost contact and crashed into Keelung River. According to emergency response unit, 35 death and 8 persons unaccounted until now, 15 onboard and 2 persons on the ground were injured.

Within a minute of takeoff, the plane's right engine triggered an alarm. The data, however, showed it had not shut down, or "flamed out," as the pilot told the control tower, but rather went into idle mode, with no change in the oil pressure. After that, the pilot apparently shut down the left engine, the only engine producing power. ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop aircraft are designed to be able to fly with one powered engine. Once the engine is shut down, it can take about 30 seconds to get the engine restarted, but given the plane’s low altitude, there wasn’t enough time. Moments before the plane crashed, the pilot communicated with air traffic controllers for the final time: “Mayday, mayday, engine flameout,” the pilot said. The plane veered sharply, with the wing striking a taxi-vehicle and barrier before crashing into the river.
